10th Anniversary Embroidered Brooch

An embroidered brooch created to mark the 10th anniversary of Hakuyo Miya.

Based on a photograph taken by my father, Kosei Miya, in Romania in the 1980s, this motif has lived with the brand in different forms over the years — first as an illustration on tote bags, then as embroidery on T-shirts and pouches.

For this anniversary, it takes shape for the first time as a brooch.

A photograph by Kosei Miya, my design, and Japanese craftsmanship — layered into one small object.

Description

This brooch is based on a photograph taken by my father, Kosei Miya, in Romania in the 1980s. The image was also used for the cover of the photo book The Red Rose of Romania, published in Japan.

Over the years, this image has become one of the brand’s iconic motifs. It first appeared as an illustration on tote bags, and later as embroidery on T-shirts and pouches.

For the 10th anniversary of Hakuyo Miya, I wanted to give this motif a new form. This is the first time it has become a brooch.

It brings together a photograph from the past, my own design language, and the work of skilled makers in Japan. A small piece shaped by memory, time, and craft.
